Sam Raimi Keeps the Door Open for ‘Spider-Man 4’: “The Day Might Come”

Sam-Raimi-Addresses-Spider-Man-4-Possibility-The-Day-Might-Come
Just when fans thought the book was closed on the Raimi-verse, the legendary director has offered a glimmer of hope. While promoting his latest thriller Send Help, Sam Raimi addressed the swirling rumors about a potential return to the web-slinger’s world, admitting that while a fourth Spider-Man isn't currently in the works, he isn't ruling it out entirely.

For weeks, speculation has run rampant that Raimi might reunite with Tobey Maguire for one last solo adventure. Speaking with ScreenRant earlier this month, Raimi initially seemed to pour cold water on the idea, suggesting his version of Peter Parker had "gone elsewhere" and that he had "handed the torch" to the next generation.

However, in a more recent conversation that has reignited the fanbase, Raimi softened his stance significantly.

"I love Tobey. I love Kirsten [Dunst]. I think all things are possible," Raimi said. "I don't really have a story or a plan. I don't know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don't know what their thoughts are about that. I haven't really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful."

"The Day Might Come"

Raimi’s hesitation seems rooted not in a lack of desire, but in respect for the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day slated for release on July 31, 2026, the director is wary of complicating a thriving franchise.

"Right now, Marvel is very successful on their own tangent with their own Spider-Man," Raimi explained. "I don't think it makes sense right now to break up that great, successful run they're having just to allow me to make another movie. But I'd love to. The day might come, and I'd love to do it."

This pivot from a hard "no" to a "not right now" is all the fuel the internet needed. The demand for Maguire’s return has only grown since his emotional appearance in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which proved that the audience’s love for the original wall-crawler hasn’t faded.

The Future of the Franchise: Brand New Day

While the "Raimi-verse" may be staying in the vault, the Spider-Man franchise is far from slowing down. Fans are currently looking toward July 31, 2026, for the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is set to be a "fresh start" for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker following the reality-altering events of No Way Home. Early reports and casting leaks suggest a massive ensemble, including:
  • Mark Ruffalo returning as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.
  • Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher.
  • Sadie Sink joining the MCU in a currently undisclosed role.

What’s Next for Raimi?

For now, Raimi is focused on Send Help, a survival horror-comedy starring Dylan O'Brien and Rachel McAdams, which is currently garnering buzz in theaters. The film marks a return to Raimi's genre roots, blending the tension of A Quiet Place with the dark humor of Evil Dead.

As for Peter Parker? He’s busy. But in a multiverse of infinite possibilities, "never" is a word that rarely holds up. As Raimi himself put it, the torch has been passed—but perhaps, one day, it could be passed back.
